SELINUM wallichianum \nNative to the Himalayas and more commonly known as Milk Parsley. \nThe leaves of Selinum wallichianum are finely cut and have a soft, delicate fern-like appearance, held on red-tinged stems they are late showing their face and usually don’t appear before late spring. \nFrom early summer through to autumn broad, flattened umbels of tiny, white, star shaped flowers are carried on wiry stems and from a distance these billowing, cloud like flowers seem to hover above the foliage. \nThe flowers are known to be rich in nectar and pollen and as a result Milk Parsley attracts butterflies, moths and many other beneficial insects to the garden. \nThe season of interest is greatly extended as the blooms transform into beautiful seed-heads. \nSelinum wallichianum looks great in a mixed border and is particularly effective when grown as a specimen. \nIdeal for shady areas and to enjoy them at their best don’t overcrowd them. \nVery reliable and long lived Selinum wallichianum thrives in a partial or dappled shade in moist but well drained soil. \nRemove faded flowerheads and cut back damaged or dying foliage in autumn and apply a generous mulch of well-rotted farmyard manure or garden compost annually in early spring. \nMilk Parsley dislikes disturbance but if necessary and you are very careful you can divide it in early spring \nA.
