It can be used for all types of track cleaning operations from the removal of heavy deposits, through to vacuuming of dust and light debris and brushing of the ballast and track.It has the great advantage that it can access all track on your layout, including in tunnels, under bridges, under station canopies/roofs and under catenary. It is also DCC-Ready, being equipped with an 8-pin decoder socket.This allows independent control of the on-board motor that turns the cleaning attachments and provides the vacuum suction. The unit itself is NOT self-propelled and requires towing or propelling with a suitable locomotive from your roster. For best results, choose a reliable locomotive and preferably one that is heavy.Some users even paint and weather their Track Cleaners to represent permanent-way machinery and use them in permanent way trains The on-board motor drives one of the following changeable clip-on attachments;- an abrasive head for stubborn dirt removal, a polishing head for rail polishing, a vacuum cleaner for lifting dust and light dirt. In conjunction with these revolving attachments, a fixed foam pad can be fed with track-cleaning solution from the onboard reservoir.The unit has to be removed from the track in order to change the attachments, but this is a small price to pay for the versatility, and the ease-of use once back on the track.The track cleaner has NEM pockets so that you can easily fit your preferred choice of coupling. Included in the package are 2 abrasive scrubbing pads and 2 polishing pads.Spares are also available separately; Track Cleaner accessory pack ref. B803, Track Cleaning Pads ref.
