Lettuce LITTLE GEM \nA multi-purpose Cos or Romaine type lettuce. \nLittle Gem is one of the earliest lettuce varieties to mature. \nProduces small, compact plants with a crisp, sweet heart and a crunchy texture. \nIt is well suited to the smaller gardens of today because it can be grown at a higher density. \nNow considered an heirloom variety Little Gem takes around 40 days from sowing to harvesting. \nLettuce prefers a moisture-retentive (but not wet) fertile soil and dappled or light shade, it dislikes full sun. \nAn upright grower, Little Gem is very popular with amateur growers. \nFor continuity of supply sow a few seeds every two weeks and use cloches or horticultural fleece to protect early and late crops. \nLittle Gem shows good resistance to lettuce root aphid but it may occasionally be affected by grey moulds. \nSome protection against slugs and snails is advisable. \nLettuce Little Gem has been awarded a Royal Horticultural Society Award of Garden Merit (AGM). \nDetailed growing instructions are on the back of each packet \nPacket contains: 800 seeds approx. \nIMMEDIATE \n \nDesign and colouring of packets may occasionally vary. \nWe want you to be happy with your purchase and all our Letuce seed is checked and inspected visually before packing. .
