AMARYLLIS Bogota \nAlthough commonly known as Amaryllis most of the bulbs offered for sale in autumn are really varieties of Hippeastrum. \nOriginating in the tropical mountain regions of Chile and Peru these amazing flowers are one of the easiest plants to bring into bloom. \nIn winter and early spring clusters of lily-like flowers are produced on thick stalks or stems over an extended period. \nThese large flowers and the ease with which they can be produced have led to Amaryllis being in huge demand all over the world. \nFlowering approximately 9-10 weeks after planting these fantastic plants are ideal for brightening up your home during the dark days of winter. \nBogota is one of the more recent introductions and features long slender petals with wavy edges arranged in a star shape giving it a spider-like appearance. \nA rare and strikingly beautiful variety with bright scarlet petals slightly shaded or brushed with darker red, occasionally marked with a thin ivory line and flushed with green on the reverse side. \nAn excellent example of this modern style of Amaryllis, the outrageous colour combination, exquisite form and prominent red stamens giving it a wild and fascinating look. \nBogota is certainly unusual but carries a charm all of its own and certain to cause a stir when on display. \nOur carefully prepared bulbs require nothing more than a warm temperature, good light and attention to watering to deliver a truly spectacular performance. \nAmaryllis bulbs are long lived and if you follow a few easy steps they will bloom year after year. \nAll images used are of mature plants in bloom and are for illustration purposes only. \nSupplied as HUGE bulbs (Size 42-44) often weighing a kilo or more and capable of producing a number of flower stems.
