Usage This product set includes 2 pieces, which can be used as a first tap (taper tap) and second tap (bottoming tap). - The first tap has a tapered tip with shallow threading, allowing for smooth alignment and ensuring perpendicularity with the workpiece for easier starting. - The second tap completes the threading process, refining the thread and providing a polished finish, especially suitable for blind holes. - The first tap is used for initial cutting (roughing), while the second tap is used for final precision cutting (finishing). Workpiece Preparation Securely clamp the workpiece with the tapping surface positioned horizontally or vertically to maintain proper alignment. Begin tapping by placing the tap straight, applying light axial pressure with one hand while gently rotating the tap handle with the other. After 12 rotations, check that the tap remains perpendicular to the workpiece surface from multiple angles. Use a square if necessary for correction. Proper alignment is typically established after 34 turns. If misalignment occurs, remove the tap, correct the position, and restart with the first tap. Once the cutting portion is fully engaged, avoid applying additional axial pressure; the tap should thread naturally. Tapping Technique Limit each forward rotation to 1/2 to 1 full turn. For taps smaller than M5, do not exceed 1/2 turn per pass. Reduce feed rate when tapping fine threads or high-precision applications. When tapping cast iron, a slightly faster speed may be used compared to steel. After each forward rotation, reverse the tap approximately 1/2 turn to break chips and aid in chip removal. For deeper holes, perform multiple in-and-out cycles to prevent chip clogging, maintain cutting efficiency, and allow cutting fluid to reach the cutting edge for cooling and lubrication. Handle the tap wrench with balanced hand pressure, avoiding excessive force or side-to-side movement to prevent thread damage, hole enlargement, or tapering.
