LIATRIS spicata \nAlso called Gay Feather and sometimes Blazing Star. \nA clump forming herbaceous perennial with narrow, grass like leaves. \nNative to North America Liatris it is grown for its showy bottlebrush-like flowers \nIn late summer and early autumn spikes of tightly packed buds emerge from the clumps of narrow leaves and open from the top downwards to reveal columns of fluffy, purple or mauve blooms. \nButterflies and bees and no doubt many other beneficial insects find the colourful late summer display of flowers from Gay Feather irresistible. \nThis undemanding perennial does not look out of place in a sunny border and is equally at home in the wild flower or meadow garden. \nGrowing to approx. 70cms Liatris spicata also makes an excellent cut flower. \nFully hardy and unfussy about soil type but prefers it well drained, it will thrive in full sun or dappled shade \nCrowded or overgrown clumps of Liatris spicata can be lifted and divided in spring. \nEasy to grow, this wonderful herbaceous perennial will add late colour and ornamental beauty to any garden. \nAll pictures of Liatris spicata used are of mature plants in bloom, they are for illustration purposes only and may not reflect the plant at all times of the year. \nOur plants are supplied ex. 10cm pots, they can be planted out immediately but better results may be obtained if they are grown on for a short time in a slightly larger container before transplanting to their final growing positions. \nTake a look at some great tips by Growit Buildit on how to grow this very colourful plant.  \nPACK 1 PLANT \nIMMEDIATE \n \nOur wide and varied range of Perennials can be view here. \nPlease remember, plant maintenance within our nursery is absolutely essential and means we need to prune back some items at certain times of the year to help maintain shape and encourage new growth. \nWe ask all our buyers to remember Liatris plants are living items and their appearance changes with the seasons.  Please don’t panic if the plant you receive looks different to the image on the website.
