About the Prunus dulcis 'Little Almond' 'Little Almond' is a compact-growing almond tree that has been specially selected for smaller spaces. Despite the name, the almonds themselves remain of normal size and are comparable to those of larger almond trees. In spring, a rich bloom appears with graceful blossoms that give the tree a decorative appearance. After successful pollination, the well-known almonds develop. Depending on location, growing conditions, and pruning, this tree typically reaches a height of about 2.5 to 3 meters, keeping it considerably more compact than many traditional almond trees. Care This almond tree grows best in a warm, sunny location. The more sunlight the tree receives, the better the flowering and fruit development will generally be. The tree prefers well-draining, nutritious soil. When planting in a pot, a spacious planter with good drainage is important. During the growing season, the tree needs water regularly. Potted plants, in particular, can consume a relatively large amount of water during hot summer days. Do not allow the soil to dry out for extended periods. Pruning Prunus dulcis 'Little Almond' tolerates pruning well. If topiary is desired, it is best performed immediately after flowering. Regular light pruning keeps the tree compact and well-branched. Winter care This almond tree is very hardy, but a sheltered location is recommended. Young trees and potted specimens, in particular, may appreciate some extra protection during severe frost. The tree loses its leaves in winter and sprouts again in spring. Pollination Prunus dulcis 'Little Almond' is not self-pollinating. For good fruit set, a second almond tree or a suitable pollinating variety that flowers simultaneously is required. When multiple almond varieties are planted together, the chance of a good harvest increases significantly. For lovers of compact fruit and nut trees This dwarf almond tree is ideal for lovers of edible plants with limited space. Due to its compact growth, it combines well with other dwarf fruit trees, figs, peaches, or small fruit varieties in a small garden or on a sunny terrace.
